"Operation Majestic-12 was established by
special classified presidential order on September 24, 1947 at the recommendation
of Secretary of Defense James Forrestal* and Dr. Vannevar Bush, Chairman of
the Joint Research and Development Board.
The goal of the group was to exploit everything they could from recovered alien technology. Buried in a super-secret "MAJIC EYES ONLY" classification that was above TOP SECRET - long before the modern top secret codeword special access programs of today - Major General Leslie R. Groves (who commanded the Manhattan Project to deliver the atomic bomb) kept just one copy of the details of crashed alien technology in his safe in Washington, D.C.
Ambitious, elite scientists such as Vannevar Bush, Albert Einstein, and Robert Oppenheimer, and career military people such as Hoyt Vandenberg, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, Leslie Groves, and George Marshall, along with a select cast of other experts, feverishly and secretively labored to understand the alien agenda, technology, and their implications.
The first-ever-known UFO crash retrieval case occurred in 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. This crash kicked off early reverse-engineering work, but it did not create a unified intelligence effort to exploit possible technological gains apart from the Manhattan Project uses.
The UFO's power source, described as a "small neutronic power plant" was recovered.
Six years later, debris recovered from the primary field of the 1947 crash 20 miles southeast of Socorro, New Mexico similarly included what was called ULAT (Unidentified Lenticular Aerodyne Technology). The fusion nuclear (called neutronic at that time) engine used heavy water and deuterium with an oddly arranged series of coils, magnets, and electrodes - descriptions that resemble the -cold fusion- studies of today. The construction of the craft excited metallurgists with its unheard-of tensile and shear strengths.
President Harry Truman kept the technical briefing documents of September 24, 1947 for further study, pondering the challenges of creating and funding a secret organization before the CIA existed (although the Central Intelligence Group or CIG did exist) and before there was a legal procedure of funding non-war operations.

But you may not know the back story and why that section was included in the film. Flight 19 took place on December 5, 1945. 14 men, flying five Grumman Avenger torpedo bombers on a routine training flight out of Fort Lauderdale. The planes, along with all hands aboard, disappeared, quite literally, without a trace. The following radio conversation (abbreviated here for space) took place between the flight leader and the For Lauderdale tower. "Calling control tower...emergency. We seem to have gone off course... we can't see the ground any more. I repeat: we can't see the ground." "We are not certain of our position. We don't know exactly where we are; we seem to be lost." "We can't tell which is west. Nothing is working properly. It's nuts...we can't be sure of any directions. Even the sea looks funny..." "We are entering white water. We are completely lost." Another radio conversation took place between flight leader Taylor and a fellow Navy pilot Lt. F. Cox, who was in the air but not part of Flight 19. The conversation went as follows: Cox: "What is your altitude? I will fly south to meet you." Taylor: "Don't come after me. They look like they're from outer space. Don't come after me!" SEARCH & RESCUE PLANES ALSO DISAPPEAR: Fort Lauderdale sent a Martin Mariner (a large amphibious craft) to try to rescue the five avengers. One hour after take-off the Martin Mariner and its 13 man crew disappeared, too. During the search of December 6, 1945, a Navy Privateer, which was a 1-tail version of the Army Air Corps 2-tail B-24, also disappeared without a trace. In spite of the intensive search by 240 land-based aircraft, 70 aircraft from the aircraft carrier Solomons, 4 destroyers, 18 Coast Guard patrol boats, hundreds of private aircraft and yachts and boats of all sorts. In April 1954, a group of senior officers of the U.S. intelligence community and the Armed Forces gathered for one of the most secret and sensational briefings in history.
The subject was Unidentified Flying Objects - not just a discussion of sightings, but how to recover crashed UFOs, where to ship the parts, and how to deal with the occupants.
For example; in the -Special Operations Manual (SOM1-01) Extraterrestrial Entities Technology Recovery and Disposal,- MAJESTIC-12 -red teams- mapped out UFO crash retrieval scenarios with special attention given to press blackouts, body packaging, and live alien transport, isolation, and custody." (*In 1949, former Secretary of Defense James Forrestal was murdered, thrown from a small window on the 16th floor of the Bethesda Naval Hospital, a bathrobe sash knotted tightly around his neck. Although the room showed signs of a struggle, and a poem he had been writing broke off suddenly in the middle of a word, his death was formally classified as a suicide. The autopsy report remained classified for 55 YEARS until 2004, when a FOIA request was made, at which time both the report and photos suddenly "went missing". In an exerpt from the Majestic-12 documents, the following comment was discovered; "In protecting the security operations of MAJESTIC, it has been necessary to [BLACKED OUT] individuals who would compromise the intelligence efforts. While distasteful [BLACKED OUT] times, the use of [BLACKED OUT] measures have been executed. The untimely death of Secretary Forrestal, was deemed necessary and regrettable".)
The official suppression of information continues...
The White House has responded to two petitions asking the US government to formally acknowledge that aliens have visited Earth and to disclose to any intentional withholding of government interactions with extraterrestrial beings. These petitions come from an Obama Administration initiative called ‘We the People’ which has White House staffers respond and consider taking action on any issue that receives at least 25,000 online signatures. Regarding these two petitions, the White House had promised to respond if the petitions got 17,000 or more signatures by Oct. 22, 2011. These petitions contained almost 17,500 signatures.
“Hundreds of military and government agency witnesses have come forward with testimony confirming this extraterrestrial presence,” the second petition states. “Opinion polls now indicate more than 50% of the American people believe there is an extraterrestrial presence and more than 80% believe the government is not telling the truth about this phenomenon. The people have a right to know. "
The official White House response to a matter of this importance, was penned by Phil Larson, a low level public relations assistant employed by the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy.
“The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.”
The White House declined ABC’s request to speak to their "space expert" Phil Larson.
