FAST FORWARD TO THE PRESENT:

“Where Mitt Romney was willing to turn his back on Akron, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio, the president said, ‘I’ve got your back,’” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

Whose values do you want in the White House when that crisis lands like a thud on the Oval Office desk? Something like a superstorm that simultaneously sparks a 500 year flood event across across multiple high population states.

Whose values? Do you want a person who said that it's immoral to spend money on FEMA to protect our citizens or who assessed a financial catastrophe and callously uttered four words, ‘Let Detroit go bankrupt’ or a President who had another four words, ‘Not on my watch.’

Emanuel said when the country was beset with a seemingly endless series of emergencies, Obama reacted confidently. “There was no blueprint or how-to manual for fixing a global financial meltdown, an auto crisis, two wars and a great recession all at the same time,” Emanuel said. “Each crisis was so deep and so dangerous, any one of them would have defined another presidency. We faced a once-in-a-generation moment in American history. Fortunately for all of us, we have a once-in-a-generation president.”

Malia Litman of The Huffington Post agrees. "The critical question in the 2012 election is “Who can we trust?” Who’s got our backs? Romney has proved that he is not to be trusted. Obama has proved that he can.

Perhaps Obama is not a miracle worker, but the miracle of President Obama is that we can trust him to make the best decisions for the majority of people in the country. He has earned our trust.

In the end the most we can actually vote for is a President who shares our point of view and is trustworthy and motivated to make the best decisions for the majority of the people in the country.

Obama can’t walk on water, but he won’t tell us he can. Obama can be trusted to row the life boat toward us as we flail in the water.

Romney can be trusted to row away from us as we drown, for fear that we might tip over his life boat.

Michelle Obama has traversed the dangerous oceans with Barack Obama for 20 years. She trusts him. We trust him. We know he’s “got our back.”

It boils down to this; Who do you trust to have YOUR back?

Do you want the guy who spent the Vietnam War years in a Palace in Paris with a chef and a houseboy, or the Commander In Chief, whose advisors said "Maybe we shouldn't risk going after Bin Laden", listened carefully, weighed the odds, knew how good his men were, and said to them, "WE CAN DO THIS". And so they did.
