CAICIQUES DE VENEZUELA - 2 coins The two Indian Chief coins issued in 1961 are part of a series which commemorates the Chieftans of the various Indian tribes of Venezuela. Each contains 20 grams of .900 fine gold and each measures 37.1 mm in diameter.

OPERA MAXIMA IN SAECULIS - 3 coins The Opera Maxima In Saeculis coins (Great Works of the Past) are part of a series of coins / medals which commemorate great works of art. These three coins are part of a set which honor La Gioconda, which is the alternate title of the painting known as the Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da VInci. The reverse of the coins contains the words Opera Maxima In Saeculis within a wreath. The larger of the three coins measures 30mm in diameter and contains 15 grams of .900 fine gold. The two remaining coins each measure approx. 21mm and each contains 6 grams of .900 fine gold.

ESTATE: Offered are two very fine serving pieces, a Cake/Pie Server and a pair of Antique openwork sterling silver tongs, which were inadvertantly separated from a very large set of TIFFANY English King 1885 sterling flatware, reputed to have belonged to famed industrial magnate and noted philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, one of the wealthiest men in America.

Hallmarked TIFFANY & C0. - MAKERS - PAT. 1885 STERLING - M.
The M is from the Moore period and denotes manufacture by TIffany & Co., in America, between 1873 and 1891.

FINE STERLING : STIEFF ROSE 1892, a large set with multiple serving pieces, original vintage (solid wood) storage box and related sterling holloware.

The perfectly exquisite "Rose" pattern is a marvelous example of Art Nouveau styling. Glorious Stieff Rose is a 119 piece set of fine vintage sterling flatware which features a heavily embossed repousse' assortment of heirloom roses and other fragrant flowers, nestled amidst graceful and life-like sterling leaves, evoking enchanting memories of an elegant, bygone era. The set was acquired from the last remaining heir to an estate in South Florida. Both the sterling (and the box) are in excellent condition, and the sterling has just been hand polished. It is absolutely stunning set, which enjoys a rich and shimmering patina. Lightly monogrammed on reverse side with a single initial, an ornate, Old English style, "F"

STERLING SILVER FLATWARE FROM THE ART DECO ERA:

ART DECO : Art Deco is a decorative style that is essentially an extension of the French Art Nouveau and English Aesthetic styles, but also includes elements of Arts and Crafts form. The term Art Deco is used to describe a design style that originated around World War I, and runs through to World War II (c. 1915-1945). Art Deco styling drew together various elements, such as structured floral motifs, stylized curves, geometric shapes and abstract patterns.

In womens fashion during the same period, hemlines began to climb from ankle length in 1910, to mid-calf by 1919, and finally reached the knee by 1925, just in time for the Roaring Twenties.

LATE ART DECO, the period from 1930 - 1946, emphasized romance and allure. Womens hemlines dropped again to just above the ankles, and longer dresses with bare backs were in vogue for evening wear.

Gentlemen of the Art Deco era were seen as sophisticated and debonaire. Actor Cary Grant attired in a tuxedo was perhaps the personification of suave sophistication during the Art Deco era. Grant, (1904 - 1986) whose film career began in the early 1930's, was hosted at dinner parties (both onscreen and off) featuring breathtakingly beautiful tables set with fine sterling silver flatware.
