| POCKET WATCH: Circa 1910 - Solid 14k Antique Elgin Hunter
Pocketwatch Solid 14k yellow gold. Solidarity Hunter Case s/n 195588. The Elgin mechanism, 15 jewels, Serial number #15246134 corresponds to a 1910 date of manufacture, according to The Complete Guide To American Pocket Watches (published in 1987) and the watch, part of a larger estate, which has been stored in a safety deposit box, appears to be working perfectly, according to our bench jeweler who was particularly impressed with the mechanism and took the time to tell us the following: The watch has an adjustment on the mainspring, a curved threaded rod with an adjustment nut that rides on it, (versus say, a friction slide) which adjustment permits superb accuracy. From a technical point of view, he explained, the watch is wonderfully overbuilt. Those of you gentlemen who understand what it is he was saying will undoubtedly be quite pleased to have been so advised. From a woman's (aesthetic) point of view, I consider it to be a very handsome watch. See photo enlargement, very faint indentation observed on crosshatched portion of engraved bird side of case. WATCH: Just LOOK at this engraving! This is an Elgin pocket watch which, from the looks of it, has been extremely well cared for. It is marked Philadelphia Watch Case Company on the inside of the repousse outer cover, and marked 14k Guaranteed 25 years on the inside of the inner mechanism cover. It has serial number 7011591 .
